Assumes the accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient centered care for an assigned group of patients. Provides direct patient contact, which includes assessing the patient, developing a comprehensive nursing plan of care, implementing aspects of nursing care to meet identified patient care outcomes, evaluating the effectiveness of a nursing plan of care and education of patients/care givers who require infusion therapy and other nursing services. Follows established nursing objectives, standards, policies, and procedures. Practices within the defined scope of practice for the Registered Nurse and commits to providing safe, quality infusion nursing care.
The successful candidate:
- Must be able to work FT, 9a-9p three 12-hour shifts per week.
- Collect and document patient data accurately according to unit standards.
- Complete toxicity screens and update allergies and current medications in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Identify patient problems/needs, set priorities, and refer for further follow-up as needed.
- Interpret and record diagnostic results and perform nursing assessments using critical thinking skills.
- Communicate changes in patient conditions to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients and caregivers about disease processes, side effects, and health promotion.
- Document education provided and assess patient/caregiver comprehension.
- Explain nursing procedures and provide discharge teaching.
- Participate in the orientation of new personnel through preceptorship.
- Develop and revise care plans based on the nursing process, incorporating input from other disciplines and considering continuing care needs.
- Provide care according to accepted practice standards and patient care plans.
- Administer treatments, procedures, medications, chemotherapy, IV fluids, and blood products safely and per policy.
- Identify and respond to emergency situations, acting as an advocate and coordinator of patient care.
- Ensure respect for patient rights and manage ethical issues in patient care.
- Perform handoff communication and follow hospital policies on equipment maintenance and infection control.
- Record patient care delivered and any variations with appropriate rationale.
- Make and record observations related to impending or associated problems.
- Implement nursing measures for identified problems.
- Delegate nursing care to appropriate personnel and supervise care given.
- Comply with hospital staffing policies and report unsafe working conditions.
- Recognize and resolve inappropriate or ineffective patient care management.
- Participate in performance improvement processes and alter practices as needed to improve care.
- Serve as a resource for effective clinical management and validate clinical skills.
- Address and document unit problems, following the chain of command.
- Adhere to attendance and tardy policies and remain flexible in staffing patterns.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure availability of supplies and equipment.
- Demonstrate willingness to assist others and float to other units as directed.
- Include patients and families in care planning.
- Make referrals to multidisciplinary support services.
Your qualifications should include:
- Current Georgia RN license from an accredited college
- BSN required or enrolled within 6 months of hire and BSN completed within three years from hire date
- Current BLS (Obtain AHA certificate within 30 days of hire) required
- ACLS ((Obtain AHA certificate within 30 days of hire)) preferred
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certification preferred
- Current Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card or must obtain within 6 months of hire
- Minimum 2 years in oncology and/or medical-surgical units preferred
- Experience in multi-disciplinary approach to patient care
- Excellent infusion therapy-related skills (peripheral and central lines)
