Captains are the heartbeat of the guest experience—responsible for setting the tone of hospitality, ensuring meals are served with excellence, and creating an atmosphere where every guest feels welcomed and cared for.Captains act as the on-floor service leads during events—bridging direction from the Manager on Duty to the front-line service team. They supervise servers, assign stations, and ensure that each phase of service flows on time and according to plan.This role is more than carrying plates—it’s about teamwork, energy, and making every event seamless and memorable. You’ll work closely with the Manager on Duty, servers, chefs, and utility staff to set up, serve, and clean up dining areas while upholding the Studio 1 standard of service: Culture you can taste, Service you can feel.Key ResponsibilitiesEvent Setup & ExecutionSet up dining rooms, buffets, and service areas with attention to detail and presentation.Prepare tables, linens, serviceware, and guest spaces according to event specifications.Review event orders and floor plans before each service to confirm setup accuracy.Welcome guests with warmth and provide attentive, family-style service throughout the meal.Deliver food and beverage in coordination with back of house staff.Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment before, during, and after events.Guest ExperienceAnticipate guest needs and respond promptly with a positive, can-do attitude.Handle special requests, dietary accommodations, and last-minute changes with flexibility.Represent Studio 1’s values by treating every guest like family—with respect, care, and professionalism.Maintain a guest-first presence on the floor and ensure all service flows smoothly.Team CollaborationWork side by side with servers, chefs, and utility staff to execute service.Lead pre-service briefings (“line-ups”) to review menus, timing, and service standards.Communicate clearly and consistently to ensure smooth coordination.Lead serves in the execution of dining room needs.Track timing for meal releases, resets, and guest transitions.Report any guest or operational issues promptly to the Manager on Duty.Event Close & CleanupBreak down dining areas, buffets, and service stations after events.Ensure equipment, serviceware, and linens are properly stored or returned.Leave event spaces cleaner than when you arrived.Complete post-event debrief with Manager on Duty to review service flow and team performance.QualificationsPrior experience as a Captain or Lead Server in catering, events, or hospitality services preferred.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a people-first mindset.Ability to stay calm and positive in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.Basic understanding of event logistics, buffet management, and food safety standards.Reliable, punctual, and professional in appearance and attitude.Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand/walk for long periods.Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Culture & ExpectationsAt Studio 1, culture comes before titles, tasks, or résumés.
