Role Description

The Jr. Database Administrator is responsible for the creation and maintenance of Oracle and DB2 databases for test, development and production environments. This person will be helping to manage, support and administrate databases and ensure data recovery and integrity. The ideal person can conduct performance assessments and database tuning in addition to creating data reports on database operations and health. The Jr. DBA will be working with the likes of system administrators, technical managers, developers, and architects.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain databases for test, development and production environments while analyzing, testing and implementing database designs.
  • Document environment and maintain current patches in addition to ensuring data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements for databases are met through formulation and monitoring of policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management.
  • Work with system administrators, technical managers, developers, and architects and conduct performance assessment and tuning as related to the database system.
  • Maintain communication and consults with internal/external customers and/or vendors while administrating databases in the company including upgrades, updates, patches, troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Participate in audits for current environments, provides capacity planning and best practices for the future production/development/test environments, which may include establishing new standards and procedures.
  • Create data reports according to organization’s support business and operational needs.
  • Perform general to advanced database troubleshooting for internal and external Oracle database issues logged within our customer ticketing system.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Bilingual in English & Spanish (written, verbal) is a must
  • 2-3+ years’ experience administering Oracle databases
  • Good understanding of performance tuning (Create AWR, ASH, and Tuning reports)
  • Familiarity with Recovery Manager (RMAN), expdp/impdp
  • API integration experience with Netbackup, TSM, or Avamar
  • High availability experience (Dataguard, Dataguard Broker, Oracle RAC)
  • Must have monitoring (OEM) and patching (OPatch) experience


Desired (but not required) Skills:

  • Oracle Golden Gate experience is a plus
  • Prior experience with DB2 is desired
  • Familiarity working with PowerShell and Linux shell scripting is a plus
