HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE:

Supervises all patient care services in this highly-visible specialty service line, including nursing and anesthesia, and ensures adequate staffing of nursing and support services staff. Coordinates staff and resources to ensure cohesive, high quality patient care. Responsible for the efficient flow of surgical cases in the Operating Room (OR).


Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and assesses operating room resources (personnel, equipment, and rooms)
  • Communicates with patient care units regarding changes/openings in schedule.
  • Coordinates operating room resources to accommodate unscheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
  • Responsible for expediting surgery schedule as it relates to both elective and non-elective procedures.
  • Monitors employee assignments; maintains staff scheduling, evaluates staffing levels and makes adjustments.
  • Assists the manger in the development of the annual site capital and operational budgets.
  • Promotes communication and serves as a clinical resource for patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff.
  • Evaluates the quality of patient care.
  • Assures policies and procedures are in compliance.
  • Provides direct patient care by performing the nursing process, as unit needs dictates.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.



WHAT YOU WILL NEED:


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.



Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.



Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in nursing within an operating room or surgical services.
  • Circulating and/or scrub experience required.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Long-term career interest in cardiovascular surgery.
  • CVOR experience is highly prized.
  • Advanced clinical and technical knowledge of the surgery, and pre-operative and post-operative areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills necessary.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously.
