Linux / Windows Server Systems Administrator (mid-level)

We have an immediate opening for a mid-level Linux & Windows Server Systems Administrator supporting the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS) at NASA Goddard in Greenbelt, Maryland. This position requires a combination of hands-on hardware and software support experience.

This is not an entry-level position. Hands-on experience as both a Linux and Windows Server sys admin is required. 

We are looking for someone with a strong computer science background with the ability to quantify analysis and resolve complex system issues.

7-10 years of actual experience as a systems administrator is the minimum acceptable.

Software systems administrator experience must include: 

o  Experience as a Linux & Windows Server Systems Administrator is required

o  Scripting, OpenStack, CI/CD hands-on experience required

Hands-on experience with hardware troubleshooting and repair is required.

o  Actual hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing hardware issues is required

o  Component/systems installation/repair/replacement experience

You will need to demonstrate your experience with and ability to do the following:

o  Proactively monitor computer systems and perform maintenance for operational efficiency

o  Provide systems performance analysis and tuning.

o  Provide significant user support and manage ticket requests.

o  Develop scripts to automate repetitive tasks to enhance the support of virtual systems.

7-10+ years of hands-on workplace experience as a Linux & Windows Server Systems Administrator and hardware troubleshooter is required. Actual experience in the workplace is required. You will be servicing and supporting a large, very experienced, and demanding user base that expects a high level of response. Any experience handling the day-to-day challenges of supporting a community of scientists is a plus.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field is the nominal baseline. Advanced degrees are a plus but not required. If you do not have a four-year college degree, extra hands-on experience over and above the 7 year base will be required.

NASA program background: The NCCS provides high performance computing for NASA-sponsored scientists and engineers. Our integrated set of computational capabilities includes High Performance Computing, Cloud Computing, Analytics, Data Sharing and Tools, Visualization, and Climate Data Services. The purpose of the NCCS is to enhance NASA capabilities in Earth science, with an emphasis on weather and climate prediction, and to enable future scientific discoveries that will benefit humankind. Goddard is NASA’s premiere space flight complex and home to the nation’s largest organization of scientists, engineers, and technologists who build spacecraft, instruments, and new technology to study Earth, the Sun, our solar system, and the universe. 

Position will be on-site at NASA Goddard, Greenbelt, Maryland.
