Director, Payroll and Retirement Planning at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughter

The Director of Payroll and Retirement Planning is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of all aspects of payroll and retirement operations, servicing approximately 4300 employees across the system. This includes ensuring compliance with government regulations and organizational policies, as well as maintaining the security, integrity, and accuracy of all related functions. The Director will also be responsible for conducting audits to identify and implement process improvements, developing and maintaining policies and operational procedures, and implementing standards and objectives to ensure strong internal controls.
Collaboration and cooperation are essential for successful functioning in this role, as the Director will need to work closely with Human Resources, Information Services, and other departments to ensure accuracy and appropriate flow of data and reporting. The Director will also be responsible for researching and resolving discrepancies related to retirement and payroll transactions, interpreting government regulations and organizational policies, and responding to legal compliance requirements by external auditors and agencies.
The Director of Payroll and Retirement Planning will also oversee the professional development and performance of payroll and retirement staff members, staying current on industry trends, developments, and new regulations to ensure compliance and provide appropriate consultation. Maintaining confidentiality of payroll and proprietary information is also a key responsibility. The director will report to the VP of Finance and will ideally hold a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) status.
The ideal candidate should be an experienced healthcare payroll leader that identifies problems and implements solutions for operational and organizational issues for successful execution of both short-term daily excellence and long-term strategic initiatives. This position will guide the evolution of existing solutions to remain competitive in the healthcare industry, align with the hospital’s mission, and position the organization for long term success, all while exemplifying the organization’s values through effective leadership and communication.
