Associate Dean For StudentsAlbert Einstein College of Medicine seeks an experienced leader in student affairs and student life to serve as the Associate Dean for Students (ADS) to provide strategic leadership, administration and oversight for all student functions within the medical school. This role is responsible for fostering an inclusive, supportive environment that promotes academic success, professional development, and personal well-being for medical students. Collaboration across academic affairs, admissions, registrar, financial aid, wellness, and community engagement and outreach offices to create a supportive, and high-performing learning environment is an important part of the role. The ADS serves as a key member of the medical education leadership team and ensures compliance with student-related accreditation standards.Position ResponsibilitiesThe Associate Dean for Students will be an accomplished leader, educator and trained physician. The ideal candidate will be an experienced administrative leader with a distinguished track record in student and/or academic affairs, innovation, and scholarship. Experience in training and mentoring the next generation of physicians and physicians-scientists is highly desired.Responsibilities include:Strategic Leadership and AdministrationProvide direction and oversight for the Office of Students, Office of Student Life, and Learning Communities including managing staff, budget, and programsDevelop and implement student and academic affairs policies, procedures, and infrastructure in alignment with the school's mission, values, and accreditation standardsChair the Committee on Student Promotion and Professional StandardsServe on relevant educational committees to integrate student affairs with curricular and academic affairsParticipate in institutional strategic planning and quality improvement activities related to student life, wellness, and professional developmentStudent SupportAct as primary entry point of support for students, addressing academic, personal, professional, and financial issuesCounsel students on career planningOversee the residency application process: writing or supervising MSPE (Medical Student Performance Evaluation), coordinating with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP), and advising on match strategiesMonitor students' well-being and direct or refer to wellness, counseling, and health services as appropriateEnsure accommodations for students with disabilities; liaise with accessibility officesGuide students through academic progress, remediation, professionalism concerns, and promotions/dismissals processesStudent Life & EngagementOversee student governance, and student organizationsWith oversight from the SADME, lead planning and execution of key student events: Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Match Day, Commencement, etcSupport student extracurricular enrichment (e.g., research, community service)Accreditation & ComplianceEnsure compliance with relevant accreditation standards (e.g., LCME, MSCHE) and participate in accreditation reviews and self-studiesMaintain and update the Student Handbook and other policy documents.Provide institutional representation in national medical education and student affairs organizations (e.g., AAMC Group on Student Affairs), as relevantAssessment & Continuous ImprovementCollect, analyze, and use student data (academic performance, wellness, satisfaction) to identify trends, gaps, and opportunitiesLead or support relevant aspects of MD program evaluation and quality improvement initiativesMentor and develop assistant deans, directors, and student affairs staffRelationships and InfluenceNaturally connects and builds strong relationships with others, demonstrating strong emotional intelligence and an ability to communicate clearly and persuasivelyAn ability to inspire trust and followership in others through compelling influence, powerful charisma, passion in his/her beliefs, and active driveSelf-reflective and aware of his/her limitations; leads by example and drives the organization's performance with an attitude of continuous improvement by being open to feedback and self-improvementPersonal CharacteristicsHighest personal and professional ethics and integrityAccessibility, approachability and empathy for studentsMission-driven and connects deeply with the mission and values of Einstein and Montefiore EinsteinDetermination and resilience with a hands-on leadership styleGoal-oriented with the drive to achieve performance objectivesSocial intelligence, successfully navigates and influences key stakeholders across a matrixed academic and healthcare umbrella organizationFacilitates change with a clear perspective on the future of education and trainingAdvocates for students, faculty, and staffEstablishes a welcoming and dynamic Office of StudentsAbility to address students' best interestsAbility to respond to student feedbackPlease submit your curriculum vitae and letter of interest detailing your relevant leadership experience and key achievements related to this position and your thoughts on how you see yourself contributing to the initiatives and responsibilities described in this position specification. Letters should addressed to the Einstein ADS Search Committee.QualificationsEducation :MD, DO degree or equivalentExperience :Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in student affairs, medical education, graduate medical education, or academic administration at a high-performing school of medicine or relevant academic institution.-Experience in training and mentoring the next generation of physicians and physicians/scientists is highly desired.-Must possess relevant experience in leading or contributing to an LCME and/or MSCHE accreditation process.Skills/Competencies:Familiarity with medical student assessment, promotion processes, and residency applicationsExperience contributing to an LCME and/or MSCHE accreditation processUnderstanding of compliance issues (FERPA, ADA, student records), data-drivenCollaborative relationship-building skills, with an ability to successfully partner and build consensus with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organizationExcellent communication and listening skills; able to unite, inspire and build consensus amongst a diverse group of students, faculty and staffNational presence, such as participation in the AAMCCompensation Range: The base salary range for this position is $300-350,000. In addition, this executive will be eligible for an annual incentive bonus, retirement plan and additional benefits. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation.
