MAJOR DUTIES

· Receives, monitors, and dispatches radio communications traffic for emergency and non-emergency situations.

· Receives and screens incoming telephone calls from the public and other public safety agencies; categorizes and prioritizes calls; dispatches emergency and non-emergency responders as appropriate.

· Enters and updates information to the NCIC database; deletes information as directed.

· Runs criminal and driver history checks as requested.

· Enters and updates departmental data; maintains department files; retrieves information for Police Officers as requested.

· Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

· Knowledge of emergency communications principles and practices.

· Knowledge of NCIC policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of emergency dispatch procedures.

· Knowledge of radio and telecommunications equipment.

· Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.

· Skill in making decisions in high pressure and emergency situations.

· Skill in public relations.

· Skill in interpersonal relations.

· Skill in oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

· The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.

· Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

· Or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

· Possession of or ability to readily obtain NCIC certification.

· Possession of or ability to readily obtain SCCJA Basic Telecommunications and Basic Detention certifications.

· The Town contributes $10 per pay period toward a 401k pre-taxed account through South Carolina PEBA Deferred Compensation. The package also offers 401k Roth, 457 pre-taxed and 457 Roth investment opportunities.

· Employees accrue 6.67 hours per month vacation time and 8 hours per month sick time

· 12 Paid Holidays (9 Federal and 3 Floating): New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Recognized holidays that fall on a Saturday will be observed on the preceding Friday and holidays that fall on a Sunday will be observed on the following Monday. Floating holidays can be taken any day during the fiscal year (Oct 1 – Sept 30) with the approval of your supervisor.
