The Quality Lab Supervisor leads the quality technician team to complete in-process, final, and non-conforming inspections, in a high-mix, low-volume component manufacturing environment. This hands-on leadership role requires balancing expertise in inspection techniques for precision tolerance components with strong interpersonal skills to motivate and guide the team toward shared goals and objectives. Key responsibilities include managing the day-to-day priorities for the inspection team and resolution of job completion issues.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coach and train the Quality Technicians on inspection best practices for precision and accuracy, balancing productivity expectations.
  • Motivate the team to meet daily and monthly goals and objectives. Identify waste and non-value-added tasks that interfere with objectives.
  • Carry out supervisor responsibilities per the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, training, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.
  • Manage the scheduling and timely execution of inspection, sampling, and testing to ensure quality assurance effectiveness and alignment with business and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate time-off requests and administer time and attendance reporting.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels across all areas of inspection to meet production needs.
  • Routinely measure, monitor, and publish the performance of the inspection team. Complete performance evaluations and skills matrix in partnership with Quality Manager.
  • Partner with production control to stage daily and weekly priorities. Ensure jobs are completed on time, and productivity is sustained.
  • Help to troubleshoot and resolve non-conformances, specification interpretation, or job completion issues in real time.
  • Collaborate with engineering, purchasing, production, and sales teams to drive open issues to rapid closure.
  • When needed, author work instructions and procedures to align with QMS systems and/or training needs of the team.
  • Complete First Article Inspection (FAI) package per customer requirements. Upload data into customer portals.
  • Process non-conformance (NC) and discrepancy material (DMR) transactions in the manufacturing software system (EPICOR).
  • Other duties as assigned



Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive career in quality control and inspection of machined components in the aerospace or medical industry.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing projects and teams resulting in measurable improvements (continual in-process and preventative).
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. Proven problem solver who can build consensus and move the team to improvement.
  • A willingness to take accountability for self and team, drive results and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Proficient reading, writing, oral communication, and comprehension in English language.
  • Advanced experience of GD&T.
  • Ability to read and interrupt blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Advanced knowledge and use of coordinate measurement machines (CMM).
  • Knowledge of computer aided software and their applications including their interface with CMM.
  • Strong understanding of First Article Inspection (FAI) process, standards, and requirements.
  • Experience and knowledge of MRP/ERP systems.
  • Must be able to pass annual visual exam (20-25, corrected, uncorrected, one eye).
  • Knowledge of the application of sampling methods and sampling plans preferred.
  • Knowledge of product traceability methods and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively within the organization and collaborate with internal and external clients to determine requirements and eliminate any barriers that may affect the quality and delivery of product.
  • Knowledge and working experience with MS Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project). Knowledge of computer integrated manufacturing software including accessing and retrieving information using the computer.
  • Intermediate math skills.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Cooperative attitude, shares critical information, and remains professional in difficult situations.
  • Self-directed; ability to work independently.
