Job Opportunity:

Coastal Engineering Associates, Inc., (COASTAL) established in 1958, is a multi-disciplined firm providing Surveying, Engineering, Planning, Environmental, and Construction Management services in the four (4) County region of Hernando, Citrus, Sumter, and Pasco located in west-central Florida.


COASTAL is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Construction Inspector for full-time employment in our Brooksville office. Applicants must have a minimum of five (5) years of prior experience as a Construction Inspector or Site Civil Project Management with a background working in site civil development work for land and commercial development as well as municipal public infrastructure projects.


This role involves working closely with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that all work meets the required standards, specifications, and timelines.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and monitor subdivision construction sites to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Document and report on the progress of construction activities, including any deviations from plans or standards via memo or email.
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers, and other stakeholders to address and resolve any issues or discrepancies on-site.
  • Review shop drawings and material product data sheets as well as onsite workmanship to ensure they meet the required standards.
  • Conduct inspections and observe field tests, including soil compaction, concrete and asphalt placement, and utility installation.
  • Review contractor monthly pay applications and/or change orders for accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and other relevant documentation.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on project status and issues to the project manager.


Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction techniques, and local building codes and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites within Hernando, Pasco, Citrus and Sumter Counties.


Preferred Qualifications:

·      Experience with software tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, AutoCAD, GIS, or construction management software.

·      Familiarity with SWFWMD, FDEP, FDOT and Hernando County’s permitting process and regulations.


Starting salary plus company benefits based on employee experience, references, and related knowledge of job responsibilities. COASTAL also has a profit-sharing 401k and company bonus plan for qualified employees; base work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00 pm.
