Veritas NetBackup Resident Engineer

CMK Resources is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Veritas NetBackup (NBU) Resident Engineer to join our team This role is critical for upgrading our client's NBU environment from version 8.3 to version 10.3. The Resident Engineer will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Veritas NetBackup and will be responsible for day-to-day operations. The resident will also have an exciting opportunity to assist in architectural guidance for the installation, configuration, and deployment of NBU CloudScale (no previous experience in CloudScale required).

Location: Resident must be local to Atlanta, GA as there is an onsite expectation a couple days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  1. NBU Upgrade and Maintenance:
  • Lead the upgrade process from Veritas NetBackup version 8.3 to version 10.3.
  • Ensure minimal downtime and seamless transition during the upgrade process.
  • Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure the NBU environment operates smoothly.
  1. Daily NBU Operations:
  • Manage and monitor the day-to-day operations of the NBU environment.
  • Perform routine backups, restores, and disaster recovery drills.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and availability through proactive monitoring and management.
  1. Collaboration and Support:
  • Work closely with other IT teams to ensure cohesive operations and integration of backup solutions.
  • Provide support and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding NBU and related technologies.
  1. Additional Responsibilities:
  • Stay informed about the latest developments and best practices in Veritas NetBackup and related technologies.
  • While experience with Veritas InfoScale is not required, awareness of its role in the de-clustering project within the organization is beneficial.
  • Assist in other backup and recovery projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ overall customer facing experience ideally providing enterprise-level technical support and advanced troubleshooting methodologies on Veritas NetBackup and Appliances or other BUR tools.
  • Extensive experience with Veritas NetBackup, specifically with versions 8.3 and 10.3.
  • Proven track record of performing NBU upgrades and managing NBU environments.
  • Expert level knowledge in Veritas NetBackup Appliances (ideally Flex Appliances) required.
  • Strong understanding of backup and recovery principles, practices, and technologies.
  • Scripting knowledge for automating tasks
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • A strongly self-motivated person with the ability to work remotely with minimal supervision is a must.
  • Due to frequent customer meetings, technical TOI’s, technical and political escalations, etc., exceptional verbal and written communications skills and being well organized are required.
  • Exceptional presentation and a proactive customer service mentality is a must.
  • Desirable Experience not required:
  • Experience with Veritas InfoScale is a plus.
  • Experience/Knowledge with Veritas NBU Cloudscale is a plus
  • Experience with Veritas FlexScale experience highly desired but not required
  • Preferred Certifications such as Veritas Certified Professional (VCP), MCSE, VCAP, RHCE, and Any cloud certs (AWS, GCP, Azure), etc. are a definite plus.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based backup solutions and architectures.
