Senior Project Accountant


Centurion Selection are partnered with a leading general contracting firm based in Florida, specializing in the commercial, residential, hospitality & industrial sectors. With their dedication to excellence and a commitment to delivering high-quality projects on time and within budget, we are seeking a skilled Senior Project Accountant to be situated in Sarasota, FL.


Job Description: As a Senior Project Accountant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial success of construction projects. Working closely with project managers, executives, and other stakeholders, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of assigned construction projects from inception to completion.


Key Responsibilities:


Project Financial Management:

  • Manage the financial aspects of multiple construction projects simultaneously.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
  • Monitor project costs and expenses, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Analyze variances and provide timely and accurate financial reports to project stakeholders.


Billing and Revenue Recognition:

  • Prepare monthly progress billings and ensure timely invoicing to clients.
  • Review contracts and change orders to ensure accurate revenue recognition.
  • Coordinate with project teams to resolve billing discrepancies and disputes.


Cost Control and Analysis:

  • Conduct cost analysis and identify cost-saving opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor subcontractor and vendor invoices, verifying accuracy and compliance with contractual terms.
  • Collaborate with project managers to mitigate cost overruns and optimize project profitability.


Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for management review.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, industry regulations, and company policies Collaborate with project managers to mitigate cost overruns and optimize project profitability.


Project Closeout:

  • Facilitate the timely closeout of projects, including final billing, reconciliation, and documentation.
  • Prepare and analyze project performance reports to identify lessons learned and best practices.


Qualifications & Experience required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction accounting or project accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, etc.) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, billing processes, and revenue recognition principles.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and interact with clients and vendors.
