Bon Secours Mercy Health is hiring an NP/ PA to join busy Inpatient Orthopedics group in Petersburg, Virginia  Bon Secours Southside Medical Center is looking to hire a fulltime APC to work under the direct supervision of the orthopedic surgeon.  Candidate will serve in the Emergency Department as the first responder to patients seeking emergency care when it is decided by the emergency physician to consult orthopedic services.  The Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner (PA/NP) will be contacted by the orthopedic surgeon to perform under his/her supervision for emergent patients.  Under the direct supervision of the orthopedic surgeon, assists during surgery at the wound site by holding retractors, suturing, cutting, and tying, closing skin, performing surgical preps, handing instruments to surgeon, etc.  Performs preoperative assessments and delivers postoperative care to orthopedic surgery patients.  Assesses orthopedic surgery patients’ physical and psychosocial status by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic tests.  Interprets the data, develops, and implements therapeutic plans, and follows through on patient care.  Provides education to orthopedic patients, their families and hospital staff.  Assists orthopedic surgeon in various aspects of his/her provision of services including consults, management of patients on the floor, discharge paperwork, on-call responsibilities for the hospital/ emergency department, and other as determined by surgeon.

  • Fulltime Monday-Friday
  • Practice Setting- Hospital based.
  • Call Schedule- 7 days per month
  • Hospital Credentialing: Southside Medical Center
  • Average patients per day- 15-20
  • Patient Base – Inpatient orthopedics & spine
  • EMR: EPIC - rounding and consults.
  • Typical Day – Inpatient ortho / spine rounding, discharge planning, medical management, and pain management.
