Responsibilities



Programs, plans and designs facility projects applying knowledge of architectural design, construction detailing, construction procedures, sustainability, building codes, standards and building material systems. Produces conceptual plans, renderings, specifications, and supporting scope definition. Working with the project manager and engineering disciplines, leads development of architectural construction documents and checks activities of others engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents for the conceptual design phase, schematic design phase, and/or the detailed design phase of a project.

Responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing a variety of projects: new construction, major renovation and minor renovations, alterations of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures and other laboratory facilities. Other duties will include project management, estimating, preparation of contract documents including drawings and specifications, and field inspections for all PNNL facilities.

Lead multidisciplinary project teams on a variety of projects, from simple to highly complex. Your leadership will be key in fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.  Play a pivotal role in mentoring early-career engineers and designers. Your expertise will help shape their professional development, ensuring a bright future for our engineering community.  Leverage your architectural expertise to drive the design and execution of groundbreaking facilities that support our mission-critical research.  Support operations, maintenance, and commissioning of PNNL Facilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR- MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

Architectural license or NCARB Certificate. A strong foundation in building architecture with 10 years’ experience in an architecture and engineering firm (A&E), complemented by a leadership spirit. Experience in leading technically complex projects, with a skill in coordinating and managing activities of diverse teams. Experience with institutional research laboratory layout and design. A strong foundation in architectural design and processes learnt in private sector with an architectural firm or A&E firm. Excellent Revit and AutoCAD knowledge, MS Office Software skills. A desire to grow your skills supporting a plethora of unique projects. Extensive portfolio of work in commercial, institutional, educational or healthcare related fields. Experience with relevant Codes (NFPA, IBC). Direct knowledge and experience in writing engineering specifications, developing architectural drawings and details, and conducting code analysis. Track record of preparing and managing design engineering budgets, schedules, and staff resources. LEED or equivalent DOE Guiding Principles for Sustainable Federal Buildings experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
