ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Federal Forest Management Project Planning and Design:
The position is responsible for understanding tools and authorities, such as Good Neighbor Authority and Master Stewardship Agreement; working knowledge of NEPA and Farm Bill categorical exclusion provisions; basic DNRC timber sale contract and sale administration, and policies and procedures that allow state involvement in federal land management. The position is responsible for collaborating with federal partners to plan, manage, and implement federal forest management projects through these authorities. The position coordinates within the DNRC, with other agencies, local governments, and other interested stakeholders to accomplish forest management projects across multiple ownerships.
Forest Management Project Implementation and Administration:
The position is responsible for administration, oversight and implementation of forest management activities on federal lands under authorities such as Good Neighbor and Master Stewardship, and DNRC timber sale contract and administration rules, polices, and guidelines.
Public Relations:
Provides program and project expertise and responds to and answers questions from internal and external specialists, other agencies, and the general public regarding the DNRC’s Federal Engagement Program and projects. Promotes goals and objectives, fosters awareness of issues affecting forest resources, and delivers information on project outcomes and progress as requested or appropriate. Staff Management: This position may supervise seasonal employees on federal engagement projects. This is limited to project specific goals and objectives. This position would not be expected to approve time, discipline or hire the seasonal positions. Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
Bachelor's Degree in Forestry with a forest resource management emphasis and two years of progressively responsible experience including professional forestry work.

In order to be able to meet the essential functions of the position, it will be necessary to have the following skills:
• Specialized knowledge of forestry and forest management planning and implementation.
• Experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, GIS programs, data collection instruments, and software.
• Capable of vigorous physical activity in all types of weather.
• Experienced in working alone in the field, including driving in winter conditions (use of tire chains), operating ATVs & snowmobiles, and navigating with map and compass.
• Ability to participate in wildland fire suppression, which may require the ability to pass the arduous pack test.
• Ability to achieve work objectives with minimum supervision.

Physical and Environmental Demands: The position requires vigorous physical activity in all types of weather. The position must have the skills necessary to work alone in the field, including driving in winter conditions (use of tire chains), operating ATVs and knowledge of navigating with map and compass.Be able to participate in Wildland fire suppression, which may require the ability to pass the arduous pack test.

SPECIAL INFORMATION: Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. A valid driver's license is required with less than 12 conviction points in the most recent completed 36 months.
