The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to oversee the operations of a mass spectrometry facility. The successful candidate will predominantly be conducting day-to-day management of the facility, which will include preparing and analyzing small molecules (drugs, lipids, amino acids, etc) for multiple internal and external investigators and maintaining equipment as part of the facility. Specific tasks may include solid-phase and liquid-liquid extractions, development of liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry methods, and analysis of “-omics” datasets. While some relevant experience is desired, training will be provided. We offer a supportive environment and design projects to meet each lab member’s career development goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree, preferably a PhD in a relevant discipline such as cancer biology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmacology by the appointment start date. Strong skillsets in LC/MS approaches are required. Experience with R, python, and/or relevant bioinformatic tools are also desired. The candidate will be expected to contribute to manuscript preparation and preparation of proposals for funding.

Postdoctoral employment is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a doctoral degree within the previous five years. This is a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal ( for an additional two, one-year increments) contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position will remain open until filled. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A completed pre-employment health screen is required for this position prior to employment.
