Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The fire fighter may be required to perform all rescue, fire suppression, EMS, hazard containment, and control duties at any time during a tour of duty. These duties will be performed by driving and/or operating crash/rescue and structural vehicles and operating fire fighting, rescue, and specialized hand and power equipment for the purpose of conducting rescue operations, controlling and extinguishing fire on any aircraft, structure, or wheeled vehicle over which this department has jurisdiction, and dealing with any speciality calls such as but not limited to hazardous materials, and confined space. The fire fighter may be required toperform fire fighting and rescue duties during hazardous materials incidents. These duties will be performed to the level of training the fire fighter has completed. The performance of theseduties will take precedent over all other duties performed by the fire fighter at any time, day or night, 100% of the tour of duty. The goal of this department is to save lives and property. The duties listed below are essential duties and the proper execution of those duties are required to
provide the expected level of customer services to meet our goal. Without the proper execution of the duties listed below, failure to provide the expected customer services and meet the goal of is highly probable. Failure to meet the department goal will degrade mission capability of the190th ARW. The normal duty day will commence at 0700 and cease at 1600 and will have specificessential duties . Standby time (down time) will commence at 1600 and last until the tour of duty
end at 0700 the next morning. There are certain functions of this operation that will or may require a fire fighter to perform specific tasks during this time. Fire Fighters will perform EMS duties to their certified level of training as required. 05% Fights aerospace vehicle fires. Drives and operates ARFF and support vehicles. Operates hand and power tools and equipment, controls and extinguishes aerospace vehicle fires, and performs ventilation, overhaul and salvage operations. Performs hazardous operation standbys and airfield surveillance operations. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 05% Fights structural fires. Drives and operates structural fire fighting and support vehicles.
Performs hose evolutions and pump operations. Shuts off building utilities, works at heights from ladders, evacuates personnel from buildings, protects exposures, positions and operates hand and power tools and equipment. Controls and extinguishes structural fires, performs ventilation, salvage and overhaul operations, loads hose and makes hose load finishes. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 05% Fights wildland and miscellaneous fires. Controls and extinguishes fires in wildland and miscel-laneous areas. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 10% Performs all types of rescue operations. Drives ARFF and support vehicles, operates hand and power
tools, equipment, and works at heights from ladders. Effects entry by normal and emergency means. Shuts down aircraft engines/systems and safeties aircraft egress systems. Administers EMS care as trained. These tasks to be
reviewed annually by the station captain. 05% When first to arrive at the scene of an emergency, establishes command and control, and alsocoordinates/directs fire fighting, rescue, containment, and control activities until relieved by a senior fire officer. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 05% Participates in physical fitness activities on an every shift basis 15% Performs fire alarm communication center duties. Alerts fire fighting personnel and supportagencies,dispatches equipment, and informs personnel of the location and nature emergency.Provides pertinent information during emergencies, and maintains a fire station log. Monitors,receives, and records information from normal or emergency communication systems. Maintains and reads maps, charts, and status board. Operates automated communication center equipment. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 20% Performs inspections and operator maintenance on structural, ARFF, and support vehicles, tools equipment, and protective clothing. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain.15% Maintains fire stations grounds and facilities. Inspects, maintains, repairs, recharges, and tests fire extinguishers. Identifies, inspects, and resets fire suppression/detection systems.
These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain.10% Fire Prevention, Public Fire Education, and Fire Cause Determination. This includes protection and preservation of evidence at incident scenes. Performs these duties within the limits of NFPA Standard 1001 for the Fire Fighter II. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station
captain. 02% Performs crew duties on a Hazardous Materials Response Team. Identifies hazardous materials,
performs rescue, extinguishes fires, and takes action to contain hazardous materials within the
limits of NFPA Standard 472. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain. 03% Complies with proper safety practices according to NFPA Standard 1500, Fire Department Occupationalsafety and Health Standard. These tasks will be reviewed annually by the station captain.

Qualifications

Education : High School Diploma or equivalent

Licensing & Certification : National Certification as a Fire Fighter I and II

Minimum Qualifications : Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), Complete and/or maintain designated training and certifications, Maintain physical requirements as a condition of continued employment, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, Pass a pre-employment physical including drug screening

Preferred Qualifications : EMT, Airport Fire Fighter, Driver/Operator ARFF, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Tender, Non-Commercial Class B driver’s license

Within 12 Months of Hire Requirement:

EMT, Airport Fire Fighter, Driver/Operator ARFF, Driver/Operator Pumper, Driver/Operator Tender

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements :

Pass an annual medical examination to determine their physical ability to perform duties in accordance with NFPA 1852, Standards on Medical Requirements for Firefighters. Obtain Air Force Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.

Must have a valid Driver's License and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Security Clearance as a Condition of Employment.
