Description

The Medical Examiner's Office is seeking an Assistant Medical Examiner to join a team of eight experienced forensic pathologists. This position will involve hands-on experience working with human remains and biological specimens. 
Location and hours: This position is located at the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, 14250 County Road 62, Minnetonka, MN 55345. There is no public transportation to this facility. Work hours will vary between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. seven days a week, including weekday, weekend, and holiday shifts.

 In this position, you will: Perform autopsies and incorporate medical and investigative data to determine cause
and manner of death. Provide didactic teaching to fellows, pathology residents, and medical students
and supervise and assist them in death investigations, autopsy, and analysis of
investigative data and determination of cause and manner of death. Assist the medical examiner in managing the performance of the functions of the
Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in compliance with state laws and
county policies. Assist in preparing, organizing, and directing the response to disasters that
require medical examiner involvement. Testify in court and to the grand jury. Direct body and property release in cases under the medical examiner’s jurisdiction. Ensure preservation of physical and medical evidence and case records in
accordance with professional standards and state laws and regulations. Explain causes of death to relatives of the deceased, and act compassionately with
bereaved families with sensitivity to their concerns. If interested, research, prepare, and present scientific papers. Need to have: Graduate of a medical school recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA). Licensed as a physician to practice medicine in the state of Minnesota (M.D. or D.O.); or able to attain State of Minnesota licensure to practice upon employment; or possess a valid temporary permit pending approval of application for Minnesota physician licensure. Training in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology, in ACGME-accredited training programs, upon employment. Certified in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology at the time of hire. Certified in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology within two years of hire. Good standing in the medical profession. Note: International medical graduates certified in Anatomic Pathology and certified (or eligible for certification) in Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology are encouraged to apply.

Nice to have: Knowledge of:Applicable federal, state, and local statutes.Principles and practices of forensic pathology and laboratory analysis.Techniques for working with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Ability to:Lead and train physicians and other professionals in the areas of diagnosis and evaluation of cases.Establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with coworkers, law enforcement, and legal personnel.Conduct training sessions and conferences for outside agency personnel.
