General Overview

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is seeking a full time Data Coordinator.The Data Coordinator will assist the CCSO’s Senior Data Coordinator with managing data and information for the CCSO Office of Research, including the individuals in custody population and operations of the CCDOC, staffing levels, law enforcement operations, and other CCSO initiatives and programs. Duties will include data entry, data cleaning, documentation of processes/institutional knowledge, and creating codebooks for internal use. All the above will require coordination and communication with other departments within the CCSO.

Additionally, the Data Coordinator will assist the Senior Data Coordinator with creating training sessions for other members of CCSO Office of Research, developing data collection systems, making process improvement suggestions, and ensuring data accuracy and integrity. The Data Coordinator must demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of various aspects of CCSO operations and is required to familiarize themselves with all necessary data sources.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Assist the Senior Data Coordinator with managing data and information for the CCSO Research Office for the purposes of analysis and reporting.

Assist with data entry and cleaning to ensure data accuracy and integrity.

Assist with documentation of internal knowledge and creating codebooks for internal use.

Develop data collection systems and make process improvement suggestions.

Ensure that all data is properly stored and backed up.

Coordinate with other departments to ensure that data needs are met.

Set and meets goals for self and the team; be accountable for project deadlines and successful completion of projects.

Communicate effectively within and outside of the department.

Ensure that all sensitive and restricted information and materials are handled with complete confidentiality and discretion.

Capable of performing duties with minimal supervision and managing projects from beginning to end.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent attention to detail. Ability to proof, verify and edit complex data, transcribe and cross reference data, ability to follow-up in a thorough and timely manner relative to unresolved business.

Ability to exercise sound judgment and to make sound decisions and carry out programs affecting one’s own work and the work of others in a changing work environment.

Skill and knowledge, as may be pertinent to the area of assignment, in connection with correct technical, legal, and other language usage, punctuation and grammar, and their proper application to business forms, letters and records.

Excellent communication skills: ability to exercise diplomacy, gather information from others and make inquiries; ability to get along well and collaborate with others.

Ability to understand and follow through on oral and written instructions.

Always maintain a professional appearance and attitude.

Possesses the ability to always remain composed for the purpose of gathering and dispatching information accurately and efficiently.

Ability to sit for extended periods of time working at a computer terminal.

Ability to work with diverse groups to achieve consensus.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of an associate degree.

Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel.

Ability to work any shift assigned, including days, afternoons, or midnights; must be capable of working holidays and weekends, as required.

Must successfully pass background investigation(s) with results showing no past criminal record of conviction for a felony or misdemeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

Possession of a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Data Science, Information Technologies, Statistics, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, Predictive Analytics, or a closely related field.

Experience dealing with court systems and/or pre-trial detention data.

Experience working within a criminal justice agency.
