Richland, United States Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Full time

Responsibilities

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory seeks to attract a highly motivated Post Doctorate RA to conduct computational and theoretical research on crystal growth via particle assembly and attachment, specifically regarding liquid-solid interfacial structures and interfacial interaction of reactive interfaces and crystal surfaces. Research goals are to understand the interfacial interactions of crystal surfaces with environment and determine their growth mechanisms and to reveal the controls of material formation. PNNL has several fundamental research programs focused on materials synthesis and processing and condensed phase interfacial molecular sciences. Successful candidate will be expected to team with other computational and experimental scientist to address problems pertinent to the science of complex interfaces, such as adsorption and interfacial structuring, and resulting particle interactions.

Conduct simulations, theories, and data analysis to investigate the assembly of nanoparticle, hybrid and macromolecular systems using molecular dynamics and density functional theory. Work independently, take initiative, and work on team assignments. Lead and contribute to manuscript development. Interact, communicate, and develop experimental plans with a diverse team of scientists. Present research at group discussions, technical conferences, and project review meetings.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Computational Physics or a related field. Demonstrated competency and track record in statistical mechanics theory and applications of techniques including novel analysis. Proficiency and in-depth understanding in molecular dynamics simulations applied to the condensed phase, especially related to particle-based simulations. Proficiency in programming/scripting skills. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment. Proficiency in written and verbal communication. Independence and initiative.
