Public Safety Reform Division

The City of Chicago Department of Law is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor in the Public Safety Reform Division.The Public Safety Reform Division (PSRD) represents the City of Chicago in the policing Consent Decree litigation.In this capacity, the attorneys in PSRD represent the City in Court proceedings, advise all involved City entities on Consent Decree compliance, produce materials necessary to establish Consent Decree compliance, and advise other City entities on Consent Decree issues.

The Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor will work under the general supervision of the Deputy Corporation Counsel of the Division and will lead compliance efforts on complex issues while supervising Assistant Corporation Counsels working in the Division.Some of the essential duties of the Assistant Corporation Counsel Supervisor include, but are not limited to, providing public updates regarding Consent Decree compliance, including in federal court; drafting written reports and briefs to support Consent Decree compliance; managing complex discovery; supervising Assistant Corporation Counsel IIIs assigned to PSRD in their assigned tasks; advising City departments on legal issues related to the Division’s practice; and assisting in administrative duties as necessary.

Qualifications

Graduation from an American Bar Association (accredited law school with a Juris Doctor and admission to the Illinois Bar (or eligible for admission on motion to the Illinois Bar pursuant to Illinois Supreme Court Rule 705).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ideal candidates will possess:

·At least seven (7) years of experience as an attorney;

·Experience with, and demonstrated ability to manage, complex civil discovery;

·Knowledge and experience with City of Chicago Departments and processes, including the Chicago Police Department and other public safety agencies;

·Experience providing advice and counsel to client agencies, including high level officials;

·Excellent writing skills, including the ability to write clearly and persuasively;

·Excellent oral communication and negotiating skills;

·Excellent organizational skills;

·The ability to manage short deadlines;

·The ability to work well with others; and

·The ability to manage and supervise attorneys and support staff.
