These roles are designated for persons of Vietnamese or Chinese descent. Fisheries Officers report to the Supervising Fisheries Officer as part of a compliance operations team. They are responsible for delivering the full range of Fisheries strategies, programs and services in their operational area and in state-wide operations and projects as required.

The Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) delivers a fully integrated fisheries compliance program that comprises prevention (community engagement and education), enforcement operations, intelligence collation and targeted investigations. The VFA also contributes to public safety by acting as the control agency for shark hazards and supporting other agencies in the management of emergencies.

The position will also provide support and authoritative advice to the Supervising Fisheries Officer.

The Team

The VFA is a statutory authority established to facilitate the effective management of Victoria's fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way that ensures their ongoing sustainability. The VFA functions to ensure that the Government, the recreational and commercial fishing sectors, and the Victorian community can share in and obtain the benefits from sustainable fisheries management.

The VFA has around 190 employees located in the Melbourne CBD, metropolitan Melbourne and across regional Victoria.

About you

It is important that we are representative of the communities that we engage with. Bilingual communication skills fluency in English and can speak either Chinese (Mandarin) or Vietnamese. Will be required to meet the VFA's water safety competency requirements, including the ability to swim 100 meters unaided A current unrestricted Drivers Licence or be able to obtain one within 3 months of employment This position is a designated shift worker with a requirement to frequently work out of hours work including early morning, evening, night or weekend work including occasional overnight travel. There will be a requirement to work an annually prescribed minimum number of shifts which includes weekends and public holidays. Recreation leave may be restricted during the peak summer period. This position involves driving a VFA vehicle or vessel as part of daily shift activities in accordance with the Driver Safety Policy. In order to manage fatigue and be fit for the physical and mental requirements of the role, staff need to reside within a reasonable commuting distance from their office.
