Specific Responsibilities

The Director Offshore Projects for Apache Corporation will be a member of Apache's Offshore Projects team at the company's Houston, Texas office reporting to the Vice President of Facilities Engineering and Projects. The Director, Offshore Projects, provides functional leadership and direction for the Facilities asset teams working on Suriname, New Ventures & Gulf of Mexico Decommissioning as required in relation to the following areas:
  • Safety, Regulatory & Environment
  • Scope of Work & Success Criteria
  • Governance & Control
  • Risk Mitigation & Change Management
  • Project Preparation & Execution
  • Floating production storage & offloading (FPSO) facilities;
  • Senior Level Stakeholder Relationship Management

This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
  • Ensure safety is addressed in all aspects of work planning and execution;
  • Accountable for development of engineering work scopes within a safety, cost, schedule and quality framework;
  • Approve of the selection of contract engineering firms for use on projects;
  • Monitor status of overall schedule, and quality for projects stewarded within the team;
  • Interface with Asset Management and Operations functional leadership frequently to coordinate resources and resolve project issues;
  • Report out project progress to the VP, Facilities Engineering and conduct regular status reviews (schedule, performance);
  • Ensure project learnings are captured and available to be shared;
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve efficiencies and performance.
  • Ensure stakeholders are updated and aligned as required during conceptual developments and relevant project checkpoints to enable effective and efficient approvals.
  • Stage Gate Keeper with respect to project objectives.
  • Provide planning and facilities engineering support to New Venture opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in related field or discipline;
  • Project Management Qualified (PMP or equivalent);
  • Minimum 20+ Years Project Management and Project Controls experience;
  • Full understanding of standard practices and interfacing requirements with Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractors;
  • Ability to gain a full understanding of Apache guidelines and processes.
  • Strong economic, analytical, leadership, negotiation and communication skills.
