The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks applicants t o support the laboratory of Dr. Fernando Ruiz for a experienced Laboratory Specialist. Lab Specialists provide technical support by performing complex lab and research-related tasks. They specialize in research methods and equipment functions specific to investigations, adapting methods and procedures to meet research needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support in laboratory environments, executing complex lab and research-related tasks.
Act as specialists in research methods and equipment functions relevant to ongoing investigations.
Adapt methods and procedures as necessary to meet the evolving needs of research projects.
Undertake diverse and longer-term assignments, showcasing expertise in addressing non-routine challenges.
Perform daily activities autonomously, demonstrating proficiency and reliability in executing tasks without supervision.
Provide oversight and guidance on longer-term assignments, ensuring their successful completion.
Facilitate training sessions for team members on work processes and policies, contributing to knowledge dissemination and skill development within the organization.

Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree. Six years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Three years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in laboratory settings, with a focus on research-related tasks.
Strong adaptability and problem-solving skills, essential for addressing non-routine challenges.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.

This is restricted 12-month position. This position may be renewed dependent on grant funding. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
