Lab Technician, Bailey Lab, Department of Pediatrics

The ideal applicant will be a highly organized and motivated self-starter with the ability to handle sophisticated administrative and logistical tasks, possess a basic understanding of immunology, a desire to learn new techniques, can operate with a degree of independence when following set protocols and is excited to work closely with Dr. Bailey to establish and grow a new lab. As one of the first members of a newly established lab, the ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about ongoing research and building a new team, fluent in verbal and written communication, and work well as part of a team. The technician/specialist will help support core lab values, including an appreciation for the diverse backgrounds of all lab members, a commitment to high quality, rigorous science, and a strong motivation to advance our research to improve cell therapies for pediatric cancer patients.
Job Responsibilities:
Experimental work including isolating and engineering human T cells, expanding and maintaining tumor cell lines, and using a variety of cellular and molecular biology techniques, such as flow cytometry, western blot and cloning. Maintaining mouse colonies and performing tumor experiments in mice. Organization and maintenance of all data, discussion of results and a lab notebook. General lab duties include assisting Dr. Bailey with environmental health and safety compliance, maintaining and ordering supplies, assisting with compliance regarding animal care and use committee guidelines and preparing lab reagents.
Minimum Qualifications:
Lab and Research Technician 1
Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: At least 1 year of lab experience, which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree will be considered in lieu of experience.
Lab and Research Technician 2
Education: Associate's degree Experience: At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
Lab Specialist
Education: Bachelor's degree. Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with mouse colony maintenance Experience with flow cytometry Familiarity with sterile cell culture work

Physical Demands:
This position can spend extensive periods of time standing and squatting while conducting experiments or caring for animals. Also requires keyboarding and other bench work and animal procedures requiring finer finger manipulation.
