Evaluates staff performance, correcting inappropriate behavior, and recommending for corrective action to the Chief of Security. Ensures daily inspections are conducted in accordance with institution policy. Personally inspects all living and activity areas during each tour of duty. Prepares evaluations of subordinate employees as assigned. Maintains documentation as necessary to support each evaluation. Assigns personnel to duties in accordance with established daily roster. Ensures compliance with established daily routine - schedule. Prepares reports of any necessary deviation thereof. Conducts daily counts in accordance with established policy. Ensures all counts are properly and accurately conducted and reported. Approves reports submitted by subordinate personnel, including disciplinary reports, incident reports, and narratives. Assures proper quality and timely submission. Prepares reports of major incidents. Ensures all reports are of sufficient detail and quality and are timely. Supervises routine searches as required by department policy and directed by the Corrections Supervisor IV - Major. Counsels - interacts with staff and residents. Refers any problems to appropriate resources. Performs other duties as assigned. Position is subject to regular rotation to any post and or shift within the facility. Qualifications: Education : High school diploma or GED Licensing & Certification : Valid driver's license Minimum Qualifications : Must meet all minimum qualifications and necessary special requirements of a Corrections Officer I A; be at least 21 years old; have four years of relevant experience in the field of corrections or in the detention of convicted offenders including one year of Kansas Department of Corrections supervisor experience; and have successfully completed the Corrections Officer Training Program (COTP). At the discretion of the agency, relevant college coursework or completion of corrections officer training in another jurisdiction may be substituted for some or all of the required COTP and for some or all of the non-supervisory required experience. Free of felony convictions. Agency Approved Substitution: Completion of 60 semester hours of coursework from an accredited college or university, including 12 hours in corrections, criminal justice, the social sciences, or the behavioral sciences, and three years of experience in the field of adult corrections; or five years of experience in the field of adult corrections. Preferred Qualifications : Certification as corrections officer by the Secretary of Corrections. This certification is issued upon completion of the Corrections Officer Basic Training and must be renewed annually as prescribed by the Secretary. Weapons qualification annually. CPR as provided in annual in-service training. Ability to deal effectively with individuals under restraint. Knowledge of procedures and practices of supervising residents confined to an adult correctional institution. Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements : Candidates will be subject to a background check and criminal history investigation. If not currently employed by the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC), candidate will be required to pass a drug screening, a TB screening, and successfully complete a physical examination.
