Summary

The incumbent serves as a technical advisor in wildlife biology for one or more parks. The wildlife biologist is responsible for program development and implementation for wildlife resources and their habitat requirements, sensitive species, and non-native and pest animals.

Manages programs or projects related to wildlife resources of the park. Conducts investigations, studies, or experiments related to wildlife resources of the park. Provides oversight, input, or interpretation of laws, rules, regulations, or policies related to wildlife resources. Manages or collaborates with stakeholders.

U.S. Citizenship required. Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program. Incidental Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license. Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided. Probationary Period: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/10/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

Individual Occupation Requirement: Degree: biological science that included: At least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; and At least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (Excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); and At least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.

OR

Combination of education and experience: equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: Have at least one full year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is typically in or related to the work of the position. Experience must have been equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include supervised development of programs for the management of natural and cultural resources in a park or similar organization; designing and developing scientific monitoring protocols to identify, evaluate, and monitor resources; leading project teams in execution of programmatic activities; preparation of scientific management reports; participation in preparation of environmental compliance documents; collaboration with education staff to incorporate new information into education programs, in a park or similar organization. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR-
EDUCATION: Possess two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in biology, or directly related fields to do the work of this position and demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. You must include transcripts.
-OR-
COMBINATION: Have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, I have six months of the specialized experience described (50% of the experience requirement), and 27 semester hours or 41 quarter hours of directly related graduate level college study as defined above in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). You must include transcripts.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess ???????at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: Have at least one full year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is typically in or related to the work of the position. Experience must have been equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include independent development of programs for the management of natural and cultural resources in a park or similar organization; designing and developing scientific monitoring protocols to identify, evaluate, and monitor resources; supervision of project teams in execution of programmatic activities; preparation of scientific management reports; preparation of Environmental Assessments and other NEPA tools; conducting scientifically credible protection, mitigation, and restoration projects, based on field study, inventory, and monitoring, in a park or similar organization. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Have three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biological science, related to the work of this position. Must provide transcripts.
-OR-
COMBINATION: have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, I have six months of the specialized experience described (50% of the experience requirement), and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of directly related graduate level college study as defined above in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). You must include transcripts.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
