Summary

As a Supervisory Patent Examiner (SPE) Trainer, you will provide training to an assigned group of new patent examiners in technical, legal, and patent examining methods, practices, and procedures. The best qualified applicants will demonstrate the competencies described below, including experience in developing and teaching others, and will bring enthusiasm and fresh insight from their own experience as a primary examiner in a Technology Center.

Duties

The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia . This position is telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy.

Major Duties for this position include:

Plans, prioritizes, and assigns work, exercises Full Signatory Authority, performs administrative duties, and collaborates with peers and subordinates to ensure effective services and achieve goals. Provides advice on technical, legal, patent examining methods, practices, and procedures and research assistance to examiners. Plans, organizes, and conducts research on complex patent examining issues that involve major areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, or interpretation to identify appropriate solutions. Prepares reports and represents the Office of Patent Training in meetings with high-level officials from the USPTO, other agencies, and members of external organizations.
