Learning and Development Specialist 1

The Oregon Department of Corrections has a Learning and Development Specialist 1 opening at the Deer Ridge Correctional Institution (DRCI) in Madras, Oregon. You must be a permanent employee of the Oregon Department of Corrections, Oregon Corrections Enterprises, or Board of Parole to apply. This rotation is expected to last 6 months but may be extended for longer. Applicants must receive and attach their supervisor's authorization to apply. Deliver pre-developed standard and specialized training curriculum related to all aspects of DOC. Specialized courses include but are not limited to: Firearms, defensive tactics, cell extraction. Transportation and restraints, use of force training, Taser, OC Spray, CPR/First Aid, Oregon Physical Abilities Test, health and fitness, reality-based training, and scenario-based training.

The Professional Development Unit (PDU) is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of the DOC Basic Corrections Course (BCC) which is a certified and mandated certification program with oversight and regulation by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). All facets of the BCC program are regulated and monitored by DPSST.

• Three (3) years of work experience planning, organizing, or delivering employee training programs, adult learning programs, youth instructional programs, or group presentations. Experience must demonstrate the application of the principles and practices of learning;

OR

• A bachelor's degree in Education, Organizational Psychology, Business or Public Administration, Training and Development, Organizational Behavior, Human Resources, or related field;

OR

• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Coordinating and delivering training curriculum for a diverse audience;
• Coaching and giving constructive comments and advice to trainees on skill performance;
• Evaluating trainee achievement of learning objectives;
• Planning scheduling of training courses and arranging for training rooms and equipment;
• Preparing materials based on clearly defined regulatory guidelines;
• Coordinating training facilities, materials, equipment, and supplies.

• DPSST Instructor certification;
• Firearms instructor certification;
• CPR/First Aid instructor;
• Krav Maga Defensive Tactics instructor certification;
• Knowledge of BCC program;
• Knowledge of the Department of Corrections training catalog, process, and requirements.
