Job Description

If you are self-driven and interested in providing environmental compliance support for the City’s Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management Ordinances (MS4), then consider joining the Public Works’ Environmental Quality Services teamEnvironmental Construction Inspector II
Job duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for coordinating with contractors, developers and builders to conduct routine Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections for properties under construction.Must have the ability to develop positive working relationships with staff from Public Works, Development and Permits, and the VA Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to coordinate Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Ordinance and Virginia Stormwater Management Program enforcement.Coordinates with City staff from Public Works and Development and Permits to accomplish goals, communicate information, and coordinate interdepartmental Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Ordinance enforcement.Investigates citizen complaints into Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Violations.Prepares and maintains database reports and records such as erosion and sediment control routine inspection forms and SWPPP inspections records.Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree, or any equivalent combination of education and experience in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standard, this position requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with ; Certification as a Dual Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Inspector within 12 months of employment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Preferred Qualifications
