Duties
Serve as the Mining Engineer/Geologist for the coal and solid leasable (coal, oil shale, sodium, and uranium) programs for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Colorado State Office, Northwest District, Little Snake Field Office. Complete the management, supervision and regulations of operations covering the Northwest (Little Snake and White River Field Offices) and Southwest District (Tres Rios and Uncompahgre Field Offices) also known as the Western Slope. Provide support as needed or available on salable minerals, mineral material pits, free use permits and locatable minerals operations. Responsible for overall program management which includes recommending mineral priorities, developing procedural guidance, providing input and review to minerals portions of various planning and NEPA documents, and assisting and training other staff members.

U.S. Citizenship required May be required to complete background investigation and drug screening. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males Must provide resume and supporting documents (See required documents). You cannot hold an active real estate license, nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands. If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. You will be required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate government owned vehicles for the duration of the appointment. You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis. Selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the BASIC REQUIREMENT for at least ONE series AND meet the ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT for this position. A. Successfully completed a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. The curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.)
OR,
B. Successfully completed a bachelor's degree (or higher) in engineering. The curriculum must have included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR,
C . Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. -OR- achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) and are eligible for this position because it is within or closely related to the specialty field of your registration. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your registration or licensure.)
OR,
D . Have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. (NOTE: You must provide proof of passing the examination/test.)
OR,
E. Have successfully completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical and engineering sciences, and that included the courses specified in the basic requirements in statement B above. The courses were fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program in statements A or B above. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.)
OR,
F. Have successfully completed a curriculum leading to a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, (examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive) in lieu of a Bachelor's degree in engineering, AND have at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts and an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.)
BASIC REQUIREMENT For the Geologist, GS-1350, you must possess ONE of the following:
A. Successfully completed a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited college or university in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.)
OR,
B. A combination of education and experience, that includes course work as shown in A above [20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography] PLUS, appropriate experience or additional education related to this position. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in one of the fields stated in A above. This combination must be sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of a professional Geologist. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT FOR THE GRADE GS-12:
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following mining engineering or geologist principles, methods, and techniques: (1) planning and conducting analytical and engineering or geological evaluations, (2) designing generic mine plans which include equipment selection and sequencing, optimization of mining methods; (3) compiling, updating, and retrieving information from data base management systems; (4) providing support on salable minerals, mineral material pits, free use permits and locatable minerals operations.

Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-12 grade level of this announcement.
