Oneida Health is seeking a full-time Lactation Coordinator. This role, serves as a support to pregnant women, new mothers, newborns, and staff. The Lactation Coordinator offers breastfeeding support and education to Oneida Health Care patients and staff. They will provide accurate breastfeeding information and promote breastfeeding with Oneida Health Care patients and the community. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides breastfeeding education and support to antepartum, intrapartum, post-partum patients. Works collaboratively with all stake holders to promote breastfeeding and support mothers and infants. Collaborate with Womens Health Associate Office, Lullaby Center, Obstetrical/Pediatric Physicians, Madison County Public Health, and Breastfeeding Caf. Patient-Centered Care: Specializes in providing patient centered care by supporting mothers and infants in achieving successful breastfeeding experiences. Conducts thorough assessments of breastfeeding techniques, infant latch, and maternal milk production to address individualized breastfeeding challenges and goals. Focuses on empowering mothers through education and guidance to promote optimal maternal and infant health. Empowers Patient Wellness: Champions maternal and infant wellness by offering compassionate support and evidence-based lactation management strategies Ensures mothers feel confident and supported in their breastfeeding journey by addressing concerns, providing practical solutions, and fostering a nurturing environment for breastfeeding success Collaborates closely with healthcare providers and breastfeeding support networks, and tailors lactation plans to meet the unique needs of each mother-baby couplet Facilitates Coordination and Communication: As a primary resource for lactation support, facilitates clear communication between mothers, healthcare providers, and support services Coordinates follow-up care, referrals to lactation clinics or specialists, and provides ongoing guidance to maintain continuity of breastfeeding care Efficiently manages lactation-related documentation and follow-up appointments; enhances maternal and infant health outcomes Excellence in Clinical Practice: Conducts comprehensive lactation assessments and provides evidence-based interventions to resolve breastfeeding challenges such as latch issues, milk supply concerns, and infant feeding difficulties Provides training in the orientation of newly hired staff and ongoing and yearly competency in lactation education with all nursing staff. Your Essential Qualifications: Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program. Experience: Previous experience with inpatient lactation programs and knowledge of types of clinical breastfeeding issues seen in early postpartum populations. Electronic Medical Documentation Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of hospital personnel and external parties. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS Unencumbered Licensed Practice Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York (required) Certification as Lactation Counselor or within 6 months of acceptance of position. Basic Life Support (BLS)
