Position Summary

Works under administrative supervision to provide support and spiritual guidance to individuals and groups, which include inmates.

Pay Grade: 45

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications

1. Two (2) years of ministerial experience in the Islamic religion, whose primary responsibility is to lead Islamic worship and deliver the khutbah and certification by a recognized ecclesiastical body with proof of denominational endorsement at the time of employment; AND

2.Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Islamic religious studies; OR

3.An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

4.PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED

Duties and Responsibilities

1.Provides for the spiritual development of inmates.

2.Provides guidance and instruction on the teachings of Islamic doctrine.

3.Conducts religious services or groups and provide religious materials on a regular basis.

4.Ensures the constitutional rights of prisoners are upheld regarding religious services and activities.

5.Serves as liaison between the religious community and the division and monitors all religious services conducted by volunteers for adherence to institutional rules and regulations and sound theological practices.

6.Provides training for volunteers and staff, as needed.

7.Ministers to the inmate population as the primary congregation served.

8.Provides stress debriefing to inmates and staff.

9.Facilitates family and inmate communication.

10.Submits monthly reports of activities conducted.

11.Represents the Division at assigned special functions in-house and in the community.

12.Maintains computerized records of all inmate contacts.

13.Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

KSA's

1.Knowledge of the Qur’an.

2.Demonstrated experience in teaching in a diverse learning environment.

3.Thorough knowledge of religious activities.

4.Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and clearly communicate information verbally and in writing.

5.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and communications with inmates, social service agencies, co-workers, department management, security, and classification staff, members of the judiciary, and the general public.

6.Ability to operate basic office and communications equipment, e.g., radio. computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, and facsimile machines.

7.Listen effectively by using good listening techniques.

8.Create accurate, clear, concise, comprehensive, relevant, and grammatically correct documents.

9.Seek opportunities to increase and improve knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to improve personal performance.

Special Requirements

1.Must be able to function in a prison environment.

2.Must be able to work shift, evening, and on weekends as required.

3.Must pass NCIC background check.

4.Will be required to pass a drug test, and TB screening.

5.Ensure compliance with the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA).
