Stage bij de Nederlandse Ambassade te San Jose

De post SJO is op zoek naar een stagiair(e) voor de periode september t/m februari in het politiek team.
De post is een regionale ambassade voor de Midden-Amerikaanse landen El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua en Costa Rica. De standplaats voor deze functie is in San José, Costa Rica.
Het team politiek & mensenrechten is verantwoordelijk voor het onderhouden en versterken van bilaterale relaties met de landen en voor het uitvoeren van het Nederlandse buitenlandbeleid, waar de promotie van mensenrechten onder valt. De ambassade zet hierbij in op een aantal prioritaire themas:
Gelijke rechten voor vrouwen en meisjes, met specifieke aandacht voor seksuele en reproductieve gezondheid en rechten (SRGR); Gelijke rechten voor de LGBTIQ+-populatie; Vrijheid van meningsuiting en persvrijheid; Versterken van de democratische rechtsstaat en tegengaan van straffeloosheid.Daarnaast wordt er ingezet op het overkoepelende doel om de ruimte voor maatschappelijk middenveld te waarborgen (met focus op veiligheid van mensenrechtenverdedigers). De focus van deze stageplek ligt vooral op het terrein van politiek en mensenrechten, maar er is ruimte de plek deels naar eigen wens in te richten, afhankelijk van de interesses en ontwikkelingsdoelen van de trainee. De stagiaire wordt uiteraard intensief begeleid, maar tegelijkertijd ook aangemoedigd om eigen initiatief te tonen. Naast bovengenoemde taken kan je bijvoorbeeld werken aan een individueel onderzoek. De exacte invulling hiervan wordt voor aanvang van de stage in overleg met de stagiair(e) bepaald. De stage duurt zes maanden en biedt studenten een uitgelezen kans om ervaring op te doen met het werk van de ambassade.
Je volgt een relevante universitaire opleiding (en staat gedurende de gehele stageperiode ingeschreven); Je bent flexibel, enthousiast en leergierig; Je hebt een scherpe, analytische politieke blik; Je hebt affiniteit met Latijns-Amerika; Je hebt affiniteit met politiek en mensenrechten; Je hebt ervaring met het organiseren van activiteiten; Je toont eigen initiatief en een grote mate van zelfstandigheid; Een vloeiende beheersing, zowel mondeling als schriftelijk, van de Nederlandse als Engelse taal; Een goede beheersing van het Spaans, bij voorkeur minimaal B2-niveau.

Wat bieden wij
Een unieke ervaring mee te draaien op een relatief kleine en bovendien regionale ambassade, waardoor je als stagiair(e) ervaring op kan doen met vele uiteenlopende werkzaamheden en activiteiten op de verschillende beleidsterreinen. Je krijgt dus volop mogelijkheden om Nederlandse diplomatie in Midden-Amerika in de praktijk mee te maken.
Costa Rica is een veilige haven te noemen binnen de dynamische Latijns-Amerikaanse regio waar veel gebeurt op het gebied van politiek, mensenrechten, handel, klimaat en veiligheid. Het land heeft een aangenaam klimaat, prachtige natuurgebieden en een zeer vriendelijke bevolking.
Leeropdracht
In overleg met de stagiair zal voor aanvang van de stage de exacte invulling van de leeropdracht worden geformuleerd. Er is ruimte voor bijvoorbeeld een onderzoeksopdracht op een relevant onderwerp, maar de stagiaire kan binnen het takenpakket van het politieke team ook aangeven zich in specifieke themas te verdiepen. Tijdens de duur van de stage kan er, in overleg met de stagebegeleider, worden bijgestuurd indien nodig of gewenst.
