Summary

In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Police Branch. MWEOC is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, approximately 60 miles west of Washington, DC. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience as a canine handler maintaining law and order, protecting life, property, and civil rights of individuals.

Duties

All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays.

All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground.

What will I do in this position if hired?

In this position, you will serve as a Police Officer (Canine), responsible for using specially trained canines to conduct investigations and patrols to apprehend, search, detect and/or seize explosives, narcotics and/or contraband. Typical assignments include:

Using specially trained canines to conduct investigations and attending training classes in canine handling and investigative, search and rescue, or patrol work with canines. Following instructions as to the care, feeding, exercising, grooming, and training of canines. Conducting long and short-term investigations when solutions cannot be achieved during the course of a normal shift to detect and apprehend individuals committing acts of violence, theft of Federal property, or other breaches of the peace; completing 'investigations of all crimes, both felony and misdemeanor, which cannot be resolved through the initial efforts of the reporting officer and preliminary investigation. Coordinating with . Attorneys and other local, state, and Federal law enforcement personnel for them to accept cases for prosecution and provide assistance in successfully solving crimes. Conducting searches of vehicles, packages and material being delivered to or on a facility to detect, prevent and deter unauthorized explosives from being delivered to a facility.
