Under the supervision of the Director of Rehabilitation Services, the Assistant Director of Rehabilitation Services provides journey level managerial work while assisting in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating programming for the rehab department. Work involves making decisions concerning coverage of programming and staffing; presenting data collected on Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement measures; overseeing the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies; and developing techniques for evaluating the rehabilitation therapies department and competencies for staff development and activities.

Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

This position makes decisions with moderate authority regarding planning therapeutic sessions regarding competency, recovery, music, art, animal therapy, horticulture, and substance abuse services.

Implementation and monitoring of programming for the rehab department to include ongoing performance evaluations by completing chart audits on timeliness and content as well as leadership and co-leadership evaluations. As well as being responsible for identifying gaps in rehab program and creating solutions for these gaps and collaborating with the director of rehab on these tasks.

Serves as the Director on Duty when the Rehab Director is out. This entails the responsibilities of making decisions concerning coverage of programming and staffing, attending the administrative meetings, modification of documentation, and collaboration with other departments regarding infection control issues.

Serves as a member of the Executive Committee and attends Department head meetings and other work groups. Presents data collected on Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement measures. Presents solutions for identified performance issues or areas of concern. As well as, conveying solutions and the implementations that align with the mission and vision of the system.

Oversees the preparation of management and productivity reports and studies and proactively reports potential problems and concerns with the performance of the rehab department to the Department Head or Supervisor and implements corrective action.

Provides technical assistance when needed concerning programming and staff development. As well as Creating and implementing training modules and in-services as well as making sure all staff are trained on new policy changes.

Oversees the development and implementation of techniques for evaluating the rehabilitation therapies department and competencies for staff and implements staff development plans and activities. As well as assisting with budgetary guidelines and request.

Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to a rehabilitaion therapies department; and the principles and practices of public administration and management.

Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Ability to utilize problem solving skills and create solutions with best practices.

Skill in providing training to staff and and assist in growth and development.

Ability to manage business functions and department activities.

Ability to establish goals and objectives; to devise solutions to administrative problems.

Knowledge of developing and evaluating administrative policies and procedures; to prepare reports.

Ability to communcate effectively; and to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others.
