Role

A full-time contract at Jennings Street School exists for a speech pathologist to join our multidisciplinary team. You will work closely with other speech pathologists, occupational therapists, teachers and psychologists. The role of the speech pathologist at JSS is to provide support to classroom staff and students to ensure they can access their curriculum. At times this includes both coordinating programs or sessions and consulting on appropriate interventions or strategies for developing language, communication, social thinking and emotional regulation. Many of our studetns use augmentative and alternative communication.

As part of the team at JSS the speech pathologists use development and social interventions in the students' school environment. The speech pathologists participate in assessment of receptive, expressive and pragmatic communication as well as play and social communication using observations and standardised assessments.

Individuals with the aptitude, experience and approved qualifications in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia. 

New graduates are encouraged to apply. Regular supervision with a senion speech pathologist available as required.

Location Profile

Jennings Street School is located in the South Western Victoria Region at Laverton. JSS is a prep to year 12 autism specific school situated adjacent to the Laverton P-12 College, providing potential opportunities as the school develops for shared educational programming and use of facilities. Officially opening in 2015 with an enrolment of 40 students aged 9-12 years, the school reached its enrolment capacity of 120 students in 2017. Jennings Street School consists of 3 discrete learning communities, specialist work spaces, a café, and play areas enclosed by landscaped surrounds. The school’s location provides potential opportunities for shared programming, and use of community facilities based on Individual learning plans. Jennings Street School aims to equip students with a high quality learning and teaching environment based on current research as it applies to students with ASD.
