Responsibilities:

Summit Medical Group is recruiting for a Lab Director. This position manages the daily operations and activities of the Central Laboratory (COLA Accredited, CLIA high complexity certified) within the scope of policies established and authority delegated by the Chief Operating Officer of Summit Medical Group, ensuring compliance with all appropriate agencies and regulations. This is a full time position.

Examples of Duties (List does not include all duties assigned)

  • Manages and oversees all responsibilities of the technical aspects of the lab including the operation of the lab equipment.
  • Monitors and oversees all Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs including proficiency testing.
  • Ensures that all Central Lab personnel adhere to corporate compliance program and all appropriate federal and state regulatory guidelines, e.g. CLIA and COLA.
  • Oversees Compliance Program that assists the clinics that perform lab testing in adhering to all federal and state regulatory requirements for laboratories, e.g. CLIA and COLA.
  • Maintains close working relationship with the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Assists physicians sites in choosing and recommending point of care testing.
  • Assesses workload levels to ensure that proper staffing levels are maintained.
  • Develops methods for improved efficiencies at the Central Lab and/or site (e.g. workflow, processing, billing, communication, etc.).
  • Takes initiative to research and implement new and/or improved technologies, test methodologies, and testing platforms for both the Central Lab and POC labs at physician sites.
  • Ensures procedures and safety manuals are accurate and current.
  • Negotiates reagent and supply contracts with vendors to achieve cost effective pricing.
  • Manages and oversees the LIS administrator and operations of LIS, ensuring correct interface functionality with EHR.
  • Monitors and prepares utilization reports, error logs, Quality Assurance Studies, etc.
  • Handles appropriate Human Resources functions at site level, including but not limited to, interviewing / hiring, training, payroll operations, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and when necessary terminations.
  • Supervisors all aspects of Central Lab Business operations, including budget planning and adherence.
  • Monitors and audits lab billing when appropriate.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committee assignments.
  • Participates in professional development activities to keep current with laboratory and healthcare trends and practices.
  • Interfaces with central office, site managers, and physicians to resolve any problems related to lab testing, compliance, billing, etc.
  • Maintains strictest confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as assigned.


Qualifications:

Education

Bachelors degree in medical technology, chemical, physical, or biological science is required; Masters degree is preferred.


Experience

A minimum of two (2) years management experience required.
Two (2) years training/experience in high complexity clinical laboratory is required.
Supervisory experience in reference lab or large central lab is preferred.
Experience with LTD development and testing is a plus.
Moderate proficiency in Lab Information Systems and Microsoft Office, with Excel in particular.


Certification/License

Tennessee State Supervisor license is required.
ASCP or ASCLS (or equivalent) certification is required
Medical Technologist license is required.
