The mission of the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is to serve Montanans in their communities to improve health, safety, and well-being, and to empower independence. This role is central to Montana’s efforts to improve health care outcomes and services for American Indian communities. The Programs and Operating Officer for OAIH is responsible for providing administrative and operational support, technical expertise, project management, and oversight of tribal contracts, and health policy coordination to ensure the effective delivery of health programs and initiatives tailored to American Indian populations.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity
Extensive knowledge of the commonalities, differences, and cultures of Native American tribes in Montana. Ability to work with, establish and maintain credibility and to develop and maintain strong working relationships with tribes and their Tribal leadership. Possess a strong connection to Native Identity. Knowledge of the interrelationships between State, Federal and Tribal government policies. Ability to work together within the agency, lead discussions, and facilitate discussion on policy changes. Ability to provide leadership in complex and highly sensitive situations. Ability to analyze data and develop approaches and appropriate strategies to solve identified problems. Meet minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in public health, health care administration, public administration, Native American Studies, or related field. Minimum 5 years of professional experience in public health, health care administration, public administration, or a related area, with experience working with American Indian communities strongly preferred. Strong health and human services policy expertise, including Medicaid, SNAP, and TANF. Demonstrated understanding of health disparities and cultural nuances affecting American Indian populations. Proven ability to manage operations and program development.PMP preferred. Excellent communication, partnership-building, and project management skills. Knowledge of federal and state health policies, regulations, and funding mechanisms relevant to American Indian health. Willingness to travel to engage with communities and stakeholders across Montana.-
