Summary

The position is located within the Division of Health Care Systems, Oklahoma City Area Office and is responsible for the development, growth and sustainability of the health records program within the comprehensive healthcare services program of the Oklahoma City Area. This position reports directly to the Director of Area Office Operations, Oklahoma City Area.

Duties

Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate the national Health Information Management (HIM) program, determine the nature and scope of the program, operational policies and regulations within Oklahoma City Area (OCA). Provide (HIM) consultation, guidance, and assistance to enable Federal, Tribal and Urban medical record staff and other personnel regarding EHR and third party needs to meet the requirements of accrediting agencies, American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), and local Quality Improvement Organization (QIO). Promotes and develops methodologies for the integration of field and hospital health records and reciprocal exchange of clinical information between IHS facilities. Coordinates and assists service units and Area staff with third party reimbursement functions through resource identification and integration as it relates to health records activities, procedures, training review and evaluation, to assure maximizing/optimizing alternate records to attaining overall Area and IHS objectives. Reviews all requests and records, governed by the Freedom of Information Act before submission to the IHS FOIA Office for final release. Keeps the Area Chief Medical Officer or designee apprised of any problem or concern regarding possible potential compensable events.
