The role:

We’re looking for someone customer service oriented with maintenance experience to join our team As our facility maintenance specialist, you will perform tasks including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance (HVAC) for ODOT buildings in the Portland area. This is a limited duration appointment that is expected to end on or before February 1, 2025. Limited duration appointments are benefits eligible and have a designated maximum length of service. The limited duration appointment has the potential to become permanent.

We may also fill this position as a rotational assignment open to current State of Oregon employees. Rotation candidates are required to meet the position’s minimum qualifications. Rotational assignments do not have the potential to become permanent without a separate competitive recruitment process.

A day in the life:

  • Repair and replace plumbing fixtures.

  • Perform general construction work including repairing gutters, replacing windowpanes, repairing doors, replacing locks and repairing ceiling tiles.

  • Clean, prepare and paint surfaces.

  • Replace lightbulbs and box covers.

  • Inspect buildings and grounds for repairs and service equipment.

  • Purchase supplies and materials to accomplish work orders.

  • Work with contractors, follow safety procedures and coordinate the work of other staff.

  • Prepare vendor invoices for processing and reconcile company credit card purchases.

  • Work is performed occasionally near dust, hazardous chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards and sometimes in areas of poor lighting, ventilation, noise and low clearances.

  • Work requires the operation of power tools, forklifts and other equipment and requires occasionally working in inclement weather.

  • Requires traveling throughout the state, responding to emergency calls after hours or on weekends and occasional overnight travel.

Minimum qualifications:

Two years of: a) general building maintenance; b) carpentry; c) electrical; d) mechanical; e) painting; or f) plastering experience.

A journeyman's license/card in any of the above trades will substitute for this experience.

Special qualifications:

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
