Job Summary:

The primary role of the Humanitarian Coordinator is to work with the nongovernmental organization (NGO) network and border coordination office on humanitarian response. Responsible for developing and maintaining the dashboard, coordinating meetings, reporting out on action items, and elevating critical information to leadership.

This position will report to the Deputy Director of Border Security and Grant Administration.

Job Duties:

• Builds, fosters, and maintains relationships with nongovernmental organizations (NGO) and public safety partners. Develop a liaison network within local, state, and federal partner organizations. Works closely with other BCO staff to ensure the success of the Office

• Maintains border coordination office dashboard information regarding humanitarian efforts. Responsible for gathering data, ensuring accuracy of data, and managing access to the dashboard

• Staff the Border Coordination Council. This includes maintaining Council membership, setting agendas, keeping minutes, and assisting in accomplishing the outcomes/goals of the Council

• Research federal funding opportunities. Establish and maintain relationships with federal partners pertaining to funding and legislation that may impact the NGO network

• Staff regular meetings with NGO network, health department, emergency managers, and other critical partners to ensure information flow and action items are being addressed. Prepare reports and summaries for leadership

• Represent AZDOHS at task forces, workgroups, and committees as needed

• Participates in general AZDOHS staff activities

• Other duties as assigned as related to the position

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:

To perform satisfactorily, an individual in this position should have knowledge of program and project management; and familiarity or experience with local, state, or federal emergency management or first responder disciplines and nongovernmental organizations. A combination of education (business administration, public administration, criminal justice, or emergency management) and employment experience may suffice. Should have knowledge of inter-relationships among local, state, tribal, federal, and private agencies involved in government.

Skills:

To perform the work satisfactorily, an individual should: possess advanced interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; public speaking skills, networking skills; management and administrative skills, typing, note taking, research skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office operating systems and software (i.e. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as G-Suite.

Abilities:

The desirable candidate for this position will be able to adapt to frequent change, have the ability to prioritize tasks, recognize and be politically sensitive, work in a team environment, handle sensitive documents, possess excellent listening skills, be self-motivating/self-driven, leadership skills, ability to travel frequently, ability to operate a motor vehicle and have a clean driving record.

Selective Preference(s):

• Master's degree preferred

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required

• Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code .)

• Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment

• Pass a background check performed by the Arizona Department of Public Safety

• Proof of U.S. Citizenship Required
