Position Summary:

The da Vinci Center for Innovation at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a postdoctoral fellow to support campus and community based educational innovation efforts. Working with da Vinci Center faculty, staff, students and community leaders the fellow will contribute to innovative projects with the VCU School of Education, Richmond Public Schools, Henrico County Public Schools, and educational technology companies.

In support of its mission to prototype the future of education, the VCU da Vinci Center has launched several new initiatives in collaboration with the VCU School of Education. VCU is home to Virginia’s first Lab School - VCU x CodeRVA as well as two new middle school innovation centers in partnership with Henrico County Public Schools. The da Vinci Center is also partnering with the Center for Innovation in STEM Education, RTR Teacher Residency Program, and the Partnership for People People with Disabilities. This newly created postdoctoral innovation fellow will lead and support innovation projects across primary, secondary, and postsecondary educational settings and work with an interdisciplinary faculty.

Typical Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include undergraduate and graduate teaching, development and delivery of innovation-based curriculum for primary and secondary learners, professional development workshops for educators, and research support. The postdoctoral fellow will also engage with the da Vinci Center’s industry partners and support multiple grants for community-based innovation in education.

There will be considerable opportunities for the postdoctoral fellow to participate in the development and implementation of several projects, project coordination, recruitment, data collection and analysis, scholarship, and grant writing.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in education, organizational development, counseling or a related field
Familiarity with k12 and higher education settings and systems
Experience mentoring and supporting diverse learners
Experience with curriculum development
Teaching experience at the primary, secondary or postsecondary level
Excellent oral communication and community engagement skills
Builds strong relationships in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Excellent project management skills
Experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment or the commitment to do so as an employee at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in curriculum and instruction
Demonstrated experience leading and working with cross-disciplinary teams
Experience leading innovation projects in a k12 or higher education setting
Experience with STEM education research
Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level
A demonstrated record of conducting empirical research and working in a diverse faculty, staff and student environment
Experience teaching or implementing design thinking
Excellent writing skills as evidenced by publications or grant-writing experience
Excellent mixed methods and/or quantitative methods skills

Additional Information:

Priority will be given to candidates who submit their applications by June 15th.

The postdoctoral fellowship is for a 12-month period, with the option to renew for additional years, contingent on performance and funding. The fellow will report to Dr. Garret Westlake, Associate Vice Provost for Innovation, Executive Director and Professor at the da Vinci Center for Innovation.

Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, and may require some weekend and evening hours. This position is in-person at the da Vinci Center in Richmond, VA.This position is eligible for a limited hybrid and flexible work schedule once training is complete and must be coordinated and approved by the supervisor of this role. Hybrid and flexible arrangements may not be possible during campus events or high student service periods .
