Role

Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of leading teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school.

Typically, leading teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.

Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program.

Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A leading teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.

Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.

Responsibilities

The Director of Science

Will work closely with the Assistant Principal of Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Contribute to high level planning as an active member of the College Leadership Team Oversee the continual development and documentation of the mathematics guaranteed and viable curriculum across 7-10/VCE/VCE VM and IB. Ensure that all relevant student learning elements of the College¿s Strategic Plan, Annual Implementation Plan, CIS and IBO Reports are implemented. Collaborate with Laboratory assistants to ensure organisation and implementation of materials for practical class Lead administration of student science competitions  Undertake specific tasks associated with this role to ensure Science faculty members: Deliver curriculum in accordance with the intent and purpose of the syllabus for that subject and Group, (including where possible international content or activities) Deliver curriculum on schedule Develop and administer common assessment tasks that are authentic, varied, and effective measures of curriculum standards.  Provide students and families with timely and appropriate feedback in relation to their academic performance Ensure faculty members: 

Create and upload common lesson plans and resources for students for each class

Complete reports, both progress and end of unit semester, on time and ensure they are an accurate indicator and summary of student performance, attitude and behavior. 

Develop and maintain classroom displays that create an interesting and motivating learning environment.

Conduct regular faculty meetings and ensure:

The WSC agenda template is used.

Meetings are organized.

A focus on collaboration

Information is distributed to members in a timely manner.

Minutes and attendance at the meeting are taken and published to the online platform.

Ensure that follow up work is provided for classes when a teacher is absent including when on extended leave for materials and student reports Ensure that feedback is received from staff who attend Professional Development, that this information is presented by that staff member to the faculty; and that implementation is followed up. Manage the Faculty budget. Be responsible for OH&S aspects in relation to the Science Faculty to maintain a safe learning environment for staff and students. Plan, implement and review the moderation of student work within the Science Faculty Provide regular communication and advice to the members of the Principal Team Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal

Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
