Land Law Examiner

All current career/career-conditional or former federal employees with reinstatement eligibility; Veterans' Employment Opportunity Act (VEOA); Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) and former Public Land Corps (PLC) eligibles; Persons eligible under other Special Hiring Authorities. CTAP and ICTAP eligibles within the local commuting area.
Duties
Serves as the technical expert in a combination of lands, mineral leasing, and/or mining law, adjudication functions and requirements. Routinely provides advice and guidance to other examiners, management and/or Solicitors on general legal principles, precedent decisions, and the proper application and use of varied, different, arcane, and infrequently used public land laws. Adjudicates the most difficult, unusual, complex, controversial, unprecedented cases that are received or referred for final examining and decision. Processes and makes determinations on cases that set precedent and have significant economic impact, competing government interests, and/or affect several different geographic areas including the national level. Defends circumstances leading to legal case status/decision, inquiries about IBLA cases, congressional and other inquiries. Utilizes data systems and applications to collect, enter, manipulate, update, and maintain data according to prescribed Bureau and program standards.
