Summary

In this position, you will work as a member of the FEMA Region 10, Office of the Regional Administrator, External Affairs Division. The ideal candidate has experience developing partnerships with disability advocacy or service organizations and making law-based recommendations regarding including the access and functional needs of individuals with disabilities during emergencies.

Duties

What will I do in this position if hired?

This position is located in the FEMA Region 10 Office of the Regional Administrator, External Affairs Division and serves as a Disability Integration Specialist. This position is recognized as an expert and senior technical advisor on regional disability integration and coordination issues.

Typical work assignments include:

Participating in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures that are inclusive of the needs and requirements of people with physical, sensory, intellectual, cognitive, and mental health disabilities. Providing guidance and implementing policies to ensure that the rights of individuals with disabilities are protected. Evaluating programs and measures for providing equal access to persons with disabilities. Participating in the development and implementation of procedures for managing disability integration programs. Partnering with disability advocacy and service agencies and other community groups to sponsor events which address the emergency and disaster needs and requirements of individuals with disabilities. Performing outreach activities to raise awareness of policies, procedures, and resources available to disaster applicants.

All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
