The University of Virginia is accepting applications for an Access Control Technician or a Senior Access Control Technician to join the Facilities Management team. The successful candidate will fill one of these positions based on their experience, education, skills, and abilities. We are a multi-discipline team that works in Academic, student and faculty housing and medical center environments installing electronic access control devices, hardware and controls, and performing preventative and corrective maintenance to electronic and mechanical locking systems. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Responsibilities:

Access Control Technicians:
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electronic access control equipment and hardware.
Perform preventative maintenance on electronic equipment and hardware.
Install card readers, sensors, door hardware, and control boards for electronic access control systems.
Perform maintenance, and repairs of automatic or electrically operated door opening devices and hardware.
Practice and implement baseline skills in manual and electronic locking and security devices, assist in locksmithing services to ensure campus facilities are properly secured.
Use access control software and mobile applications for programing, troubleshooting, status updates and generate reports from the databases.
Adjust doors, and any related hardware to doors are closing and latching in a proper manner.
Cut new or duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns, or codes.
Assist all Maintenance zone departments in maintaining accessibility to the campus for maintenance purposes.
Maintains current knowledge and skills of industry best practices.
Answers service calls of various types in various buildings.
Ensures that OSHA and general safety regulations are maintained.
Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
In addition to the job duties listed above, other job duties may be assigned.

Senior Access Control Technicians:

In addition to duties listed above,
Assist other departments with interconnections to security and fire safety systems.
Maintain spare stock inventory and supplies.
Prepare estimates.
Assists the supervisor with ensuring a sufficient inventory of materials and supplies.
Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Access Control Technicians
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years of experience with Electronic Access Control systems
Valid Virginia Driver’s License

Senior Access Control Technicians
High school diploma or equivalent
4 years of experience with Electronic Access Control systems
Valid Virginia Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

Access Control Technicians
Manufacturer training/certificate electronic access control (Cboard, lenel, Salto, HID etc.)

Senior Access Control Technicians
Manufacturer training/certificate electronic access control (Cboard, lenel, Salto, HID etc.)
5+ Years experience with electronic access control systems
DCJS, Electronic Security Association (ESA), Certified Electronics Technician

Compensation:

Anticipated Hiring Range for Access Control Technician - $25 - $30/hr

Anticipated Hiring Range for Senior Access Control Technician - $28 - $33/hr.

Actual hiring rates commensurate with experience.

Physical Demands:

Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.
