Job Description

Parks Recreation and Tourism is seeking an individual with a background in accounting, customer service, concession, and merchandising operations that would like to work in an outdoor recreational environment.The Account Specialist I position is primarily responsible for supporting financial operations and providing customer services at various park and recreational facilities including Northwest River Park, campground, camp store, Elizabeth River Park ship store, visitor centers, and other park concession operations. Other responsibilities of the Account Specialist I include process transactions for various amenities at the parks to include, shelter and facility rentals, and merchandise, food and beverage sales, registrations for various programing, and assisting participants with recreational activities such as fishing, boating, hiking, biking, equestrian activities, disc and mini golf. Some work will include coordination and handling of park and concession operations at various park facilities. The position may also provide administrative, programing, and special event support in other areas of Parks, Recreation and Tourism. Duties include but are not limited to:Account Specialist I provides internal and external customer service in accordance with the City of Chesapeake Customer Service Initiative in an ethical and professional manner. Answers telephone, assists visitors, responds to service requests, and provides the public with information concerning park operations, programs, policies, recreational facilities and resources.Assists Park Rangers with visitor management and enforcement of park rules and regulations; monitors and assists with departmental special events, programs, and activities.

Other operational and clerical duties as required at the various facilities. Required Qualifications Vocational/Educational Requirement:
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in accounting or a closely related field.
 
Experience:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/educational standard, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses:
Requires valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with the

Special Requirements:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. 

Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties. Preferred Qualifications Advance level skill set in the Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Experience using POS systems, and ActiveNet software.

PeopleSoft experience helpful.

Some experience in developing polices & procedures and training staff.

Previous cash handling and transaction processing experience.

Advance skill level in customer service.
