Job Summary


AECOM is actively seeking a highly talented, self-driven and motivated Senior Traffic Transportation Engineer for immediate employment in our Arlington, Virginia office.

This position requires technical excellence in the field of traffic engineering, simulation, and analysis. The candidate must have a solid understanding and experience of various aspects of traffic and transportation methodologies and procedures.

As a senior engineer in the transportation department, candidate will work on regional and national surface transportation projects on a variety of tasks in the field of traffic simulation, planning, and engineering.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Engage in the engineering, planning, and simulation efforts for all areas of traffic and transportation projects

  • Collaborate with other engineers, planners, and modelers to research, analyze, or resolve complex transportation analyses or design issues

  • Engage in the engineering and planning effort for traffic signal design, traffic operations, and safety projects including following the agency's plan development process

  • Guide junior engineers and provide QA/QC for projects in various areas of traffic and transportation engineering, analysis, and simulation

  • Interact and coordinate regularly with clients and sub consultants in the various assignments

  • Understand trends, best practices, and innovation in the transportation industry and explore opportunities of implementing them on projects

  • Provide assistance in business development activities in providing responses to RFP, RFQ, and SOQ including technical writing, and scope and fee development

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/ transportation engineering + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of industry experience in the field of traffic engineering, analysis, and simulation

  • PE license in DC and VA is required or ability to obtain through reciprocity in 3 months

  • Proficient with Synchro/ SimTraffic, HCS software, VISSIM, and MS Office Suite (SIDRA – preferred)

  • Experience with Microstation, AutoCAD, SignCAD, and GuidSign is preferred

  • Thorough understanding of traffic and transportation guidelines/ procedures/ plan preparation

  • Experience in leading the work with DDOT, VDOT and local municipalities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good time management skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail and a strong desire to learn

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplines team environment
