Introduction

The Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Probation Manager to oversee the Probation Division of the Department, managing daily division activities and programs related to probation supervision. 

Job Summary

This position supervises the Probation Supervisor, as well as probation officers, oversees probation case assignments, appears in Court, as needed, coaches staff performance, resolves conflict among staff, participates in hiring and training of staff, performs case reviews, and supervises offenders placed on probation by any of the three Courts in Loudoun County. This position ensures compliance with DCJS and departmental standards of probation supervision, reviews official court correspondence for accuracy, conducts record checks, and meets with Judges of the 20th Judicial Circuit, as needed. 

The ideal candidate should possess the following:
Strong knowledge of the criminal justice system and courtroom procedures
Knowledge of principles, objectives, and techniques of probation field and the criminal justice system, particularly how it relates to adult offenders, mental health/serious mental illness, and substance abuse.
Knowledge of evidence-based practices and motivational interviewing.
Knowledge of state and federal legislation related to the criminal justice field.
Ability to analyze and interpret criminal justice information and identify trends.
Ability to assess substance abuse or mental health concerns and make appropriate referrals for services.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Court personnel (Judges and clerks), stakeholders such as law enforcement, prosecutors, defense attorneys, magistrates, pretrial officers, county administration and staff.
Experience working with community stakeholders in a criminal justice environment and ability to assist in budget preparations is desired.
Ability to read and interpret legal documents.
Ability to organize information and prepare clear, comprehensive, and concise reports and to proofread official correspondence for grammatical errors and accuracy.
Ability to testify under pressure/ challenging circumstances. Ability to effective interview and interact with offenders.
Ability to make sound decisions, negotiate sensitive issues, analyze conflict, and facilitate solutions.
Experience with/knowledge of Behavioral Health Dockets, Veterans Treatment Dockets, Recovery Courts, DWI Specialty dockets.
Knowledge/understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence preferred.
Knowledge of electronic monitoring including GPS and alcohol monitoring.

Hiring salary commensurate with experience. 

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelors degree in criminal justice, sociology, psychology, or related field, and a minimum of four (4) years related experience in the criminal justice field, including one (1) year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. VCIN certification is required, selected candidate will obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

Successful candidate must undergo and complete a criminal background check and DMV record check. Annual DMV record check will be required. A valid drivers license and good driving record (driving records reviewed annually).
